What Treatments do Cosmetic Dentists Provide?
At Peak Dental in Calgary, AB, we offer a variety of cosmetic dental treatments, including:
Teeth whitening is a term used to describe a variety of processes used to make a patient’s teeth appear brighter and whiter, including UV (ultraviolet) therapy, sanding down stains, bleaching, and more.
Dental bonding is a procedure that is typically only used on the visible front teeth. This procedure may also be referred to as tooth bonding or composite bonding. In this procedure, a tooth-colored resin is applied to your teeth to cover cracks in teeth, close gaps, camouflage discoloration, and change the shape and size of your teeth.
Smile design is a combination of cosmetic and orthodontic procedures to improve a patient’s smile. A cosmetic dentist uses the aesthetics of the patient’s mouth and face to determine which procedures are required, including teeth whitening, dental implants, dental veneers, crowns, and more.
At Peak Dental Group, our patients have several reasons for pursuing smile design, including improving confidence, looking younger, feeling attractive, and improving their chances of career advancement.
Dental veneers are thin shells that are attached to the surface of the front teeth to improve their appearance. These shells are permanently attached to your teeth and are typically made of composite resin or porcelain. Patients who have smaller-than-average teeth, or teeth that are broken, chipped, or discolored often choose dental veneers to improve their appearance. Some patients only need one veneer to fix a single tooth, while others require 6 to 8 to create a symmetrical smile. The front 8 teeth in the top arch are the ones that veneers are most commonly attached to.
When a filling is not enough to restore a tooth, a dental crown may be recommended to restore, cover, and protect it. Crowns are made of metal, ceramic, porcelain, or composite resin. Dental crowns can be used to restore a broken/worn down tooth, serve as an anchor to hold a dental bridge in place, protect a weak tooth, be used as a prosthetic tooth in the case of a dental implant, protect a tooth treated with a root canal, and more.
For patients who have malocclusions, or misaligned teeth, teeth straightening options may be recommended. These procedures include traditional braces or Invisalign. We typically only recommend Invisalign for teens and adults, as compliance is often an issue with younger children and the aligners must be worn for at least 20 to 22 hours a day.
In most cases, since cosmetic procedures do not target the structure or functionality of the teeth, dental insurance will not cover them. Some insurance plans will cover teeth straightening procedures, such as traditional metal braces or Invisalign.
Our friendly office staff will contact your insurance provider to determine your coverage and we will give you a quote on treatment based on that coverage. For patients who do not have coverage or who need additional help paying for their procedures, we do offer financing through PayBright by Affirm. The online application is easy. You will receive a decision within minutes and, if approved, payments will be automatically charged to the payment method you choose.
